Relationship Problems

Relationship problems plague everyone's relationship at some point. But dealing with your relationship problems is a very personal thing.

Do You Have Relationship Problems?

Who should you turn to when you're having relationship problems? We aim to answer that. Below.

Credibility is the key to solving relationship problems

When you want serious relationship advice, it just makes sense to turn to someone who's in a successful long-term relationship. After all, every relationship encounters problems at one point or another, and someone who's in a successful long-term relationship has endured theirs and probably come out of it even stronger. They speak about relationship problems from experience. If you're parents have been happily married for years, they might be a good resource, but make sure they're able to be objective. In addition, while they might have good advice, it might not be in line with the times.

For example, premarital sex used to be the biggest no-no, but these days, it's as common as kissing. If you're a woman and you were raised to wait until marriage, you might have more relationship problems than someone who was taught to wait until they are in a loving, committed relationship. Neither is right or wrong, but your parents are not going to be a good resource for advice in this situation. They were raised in a completely different era and might not be able to be objective. Plus, it's not exactly comfortable to talk to them about your sex life.

If you have important personal relationship questions, you could turn to a close friend. Almost everyone has a friend who has always had good luck in relationships or who has been with the same person for a very long time. They might have more timely advice, while keeping your best interests in mind. Of course, if your friend has repeatedly said she thinks you should be with someone else, she may not be able to be objective either. In this case, you might want to take your relationship problems to an expert, meaning a professional.

Now, who is an expert in relationship problems? Dr. Phil for one. But there are many books that deal with relationship advice that are written by psychologists or relationship counselors. Check out one of those. Ultimately, you're going to do what you want to do, but having some good advice to base your decisions on is never a bad idea. A long distance relationship can work, but it's going to take quite a bit of effort.
